Wycliffe and the Three-Toed Pussy
by: W.J BURLEY

part I

Reflect:
The story of Wycliffe and the Three-Toed Pussy is a suspense type of a novel. The author is amazing for using a puzzle type scenario. And yes, when the story had started he did mentioned what happened to Pussy Welles but it's not stated how it happened. I admire Superintendent Wycliffe for handling the case with such courage to have it end in her side and claim the justice for Pussy Welles. The story really tickles my mind when i read it. While reading it I keep on asking questions, I keep on concluding things and it really made me think. The story merely revolves on how Prosecutor Wycliffe handled the case and defended it well, the flow was a high standard type of suspense novel.
The story is about a young woman who has been shot and the only things taken from the scene were the shoe and stocking from her left leg. After the incident happened it leaves Pussy having a deformed foot. Her family really asking justice for her and it was granted by the help of Prosecutor Wycliffe.

Question:
As I read the story I can't wait to answer the questions running in my mind. I just wonder why the victim had formed a crossword puzzle to help them solve the case and why did she made no effort to save herself if she could? Were Sylvie, Darley and most especially Edgar were involved in Pussy's death? How could Sylvie solved that puzzle easily? Does it has something to do with Pussy's death? Is Edgar her murderer or is it true that she really committed suicide? I don't get the idea of those teens to have such stupid game; murdering one another. Why would Pussy let herself be involved in this game and if she already know that she will going to die why she had still continue to be a part of it? What happened to Darley and Sylvie after knowing that the game they were involved will lead to their friends' death? How did Pussy came up with the decision of having a crossword puzzle as her clue?

Connect:
I can connect myself to some part of the  story . When Pussy made a crossword puzzle as clues, that's smart of her but same as Pussy I am a brave girl and even when I'm still in my early age I was like her; brave and I can already handle myself and the situation. I like the courage Superintendent Wycliffe had shown in the story, courage is one of my shield to face trials and hardships especially when it is regarding to my studies and for my family. I also have my friends like Pussy. Like mine they are also loving and caring, some are true and some are just pretending to be one but the truth is they are not trustworthy and dishonest but like Pussy, she still manage to love those enemies of her not because she is a good person but because her enemies needs more attention from a friend.

Predict:
I think Edgar has something to do with Pussy's death. He hides and never let his self out until he was found dead. As what as I have said, it's so smart of Pussy to have the crossword puzzle as a clue of her death, but I think it would be easier for Wycliffe to solve the case if she made it easier to solve her puzzle. I think it would not happened if only Sylvie and Pussy did not argue about Edgar and if only Edgar listened to her and did not ran with Sylvie.
I think Darley and Sylvie will be able to save Pussy if they only stopped Edgar for making the game even, because as it stated in the story the reason of Edgar why he murdered his sister was to make the game even.

Part II.

Character Report

Superintendent Wycliffe

                - one of the most popular prosecutor in his time. His interest in handling cases started when his father died. His father's death became his inspiration to proceed law as his profession. When he was seventeen-year-old, he studied law and finished it at the age of twenty-seven. His first successful case was the case of Janice Mitford who was murdered by her husband of ten years.
                - as Wycliffe handle the case of Pussy Welles, the unhappy  woman who routinely manipulating the man in her life, and as half of men in the village have been known to visit her and most have reason to lie about it, now for Wycliffe it's difficult to find the murderer. His task became complicated by the discovery of some clues and the form of crossword puzzles left by the victim herself.

                - when he finished the case and found out that the killer was Pussy's own brother and it happened because of a stupid game that is why Pussy already know from the very start that she will going to die. Wycliffe can't believe that Pussy already killed Lomax as part of their game. He still don't understand why they consider murdering each other a game. After solving the case of Three-Toed Pussy he decided to move to Barcelona.

Reflection paper
Abakada ina

Abakada ina is a film dedicated to all women who strive to be the best for their children. It is about an illiterate woman named Estella who married Daniel and bore three beautiful daughters. Since Estella had stopped studying when she was still a child, she always had an argue with her mother-in-law named Matilda. Matilda loves her grandchildren very much that she didn’t want them to become like their mother – an illiterate person. Matilda taught everything she knew to Estella’s children. She tried to be a mother to them. Matilda wanted to raise them the way she raised her children, Daniel and Jojo. Because of this, Estella felt that she doesn’t have a place in them, that she cannot do anything but to sell in the market.

Daniel came back home from his work on the ship and he tried to live with his family away from his mother. It was a very tough decision for them but they did it because they believe that they could fulfill their dreams in a place far from where they grew up. Unfortunately, many bad things had happened so they decided again to go back to Matilda though Estella knew that she would be hurt again by her.
Daniel and Estella broke up and they both struggle to make their family get back again. Estella studied again and Daniel chose to pursue the course he really wanted. They wrote letters to each other and promised to one another that no matter what happen, the “Daniel and Estella” they knew would be together and love each other with all their hearts all over again. I admire Estella for being strong for her family especially for her children. Although she was weak at some aspects and even though she is academically challenge, she still manage to give her children’s need in spite of her being illiterate. Even if Matilda is sometimes rude to Estella, she is still a good grandmother to her grandchildren. Abakada ina is such a nice movie and an inspiring one.

A Test of Faith
By: Maxine Billings

Part I.

Reflect:
I like the story for it revolves between family members and it talks about their faith most of the time. Andrea Hamilton is such a good and a magnificent mother to her little princess Kayla. She always gives her all just to protect Kayla and those people around her who keeps on loving her. It just so happened that her loving husband of ten years, Clayton was killed by a drunk driver. Andrea has always been her family’s rock, the one they turn to for strength and support. Andrea finds herself helpless when Clayton passed away because of the thought that she has Kayla who is still an innocent one and knowing the fact that she is pregnant now. I admire her for facing it strongly and also, I admire her family for they never leave Andrea alone.

Question:
I hope it was stated in the story what really happened between Clayton and the drunk driver. What would happen to Andrea and Kayla if her mother-in-law- and father-in-law wouldn’t be there during the time she was so down? How does Leah felt the first time she knew that Andrea can’t hardly share the joy for her twin sister’s wedding? How can her family be that strong if their source of joy was also hopeless? Is there anything more than this tragedy can break the Hamilton family?

Connect:
I can connect myself to Andrea for like her I can say that I am strong and I also have a strong faith. Although she was weak at first but she still manage to bring back her faith and trust to God and to her family. I love how their family supports each member like mine. I like the family Andrea has especially her father-in-law William Washington for being a funny and a very supportive father. Her faith is really amazing and so her family, they were all religious and make God as the center of their living. Like them I also put God first before anything that I do. I can connect to the story above all because it is somewhat like a reality and sometimes because of those trials that we need to surpass we often lost our faith so it is also a lesson to us that we should not let ourselves lost the faith and just remember this “Everything happens for a very good reason and God’s will be done”.

Predict:
Maybe Kayla will be the first person to be affected when Andrea really give up that easily. Could the run of the story be more interesting if Clayton wasn’t killed? I think the bond between the twins will be tighter if only Andrea didn’t let her pride invades her heart, if only she accepts the fact earlier that Clayton is already gone and didn’t gives her all anger
